I recently became a member of 500px, an online community for photographers. I have seen lots of amazing work on this site, but this morning the work of AyDan Kerimli caught my attention. AyDan is a self-taught photographer who focuses on people, portraits and fashion. The details in her work fascinate such as the lighting, photo treatments and the subjects pose. This is the reason I chose her for photographer of the week.

A few months ago I was asked to shoot my friends Traci and Clint’s daughter Whitney for her birthday. Since this is all new to me, I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to accomplish the task. Recently I have been asking friends if I could take pictures of them so I could practice, but when Traci approached me about the shoot, I was scared. I didn’t want to mess something up. However, a few weeks before Whitney’s birthday, I agreed to do the shoot. Whitney was fun easy and fun to shoot. Her love for style and basketball made this shoot show who she really is.

Documented Maternity Shoot with Laura Burciaga and Photographer Meshali Mitchell

I had the pleasure of hiring Meshali Mitchell to do Laura’s maternity shoot. Meshali is one of the best photographers in the Dallas metroplex. Her work has inspired me to become a better photographer. A few months ago I had posted her on my site as Photographer of the Week. I still can’t believe she said yes to us. What an eventful day it was. I had asked Meshali if I could bring along my new Canon 5D Mark II and document the event. I promised her I would not get in the way. But Meshali is so sweet that she even gave me a few pointers during the shoot. Laura and I can’t wait to see how cool the pictures turn out. Meshali’s editing is by far one of the best that I have seen in the Dallas area.

Now for my wife and I, we are SOOO excited. We can’t wait to meet Truett Brooklyn in 9 more weeks. He is due July 3rd. Isn’t Laura gorgeous as a prego? She doesn’t even look pregnant. It’s such an honor to be her husband and best friend. She is going to make the best mom ever.

Last but not least, I want to thank Chelsie Birks for doing Laura’s makeup. She is definitely a life saver.

It has been a while since I have posted a Photographer of the Week. However, this weekend I was totally reminded that a good friend is also a photographer. I knew she was good, but when I saw her work today, I was blown away. So this weeks Photographer of the Week goes to Jessica Sheppard. Her style is fresh, organic yet simple. I love the simplicity in her editing. She doesn’t have a website, but her work can be found on Flickr.
